Q: Can you tell us about your background and how you became involved in art?

Annie Reyes: Absolutely! I was born in Venezuela, where my love for art began at a young age. I used to paint school bulletin boards and attend art classes with my mother. After completing my graphic design studies, I moved to Miami in 2002, immersed myself in mural art, and launched a graphic design business. However, my artistic pursuits took a backseat when I took on a full-time role at a local non-profit organization.

Q: What inspired you to return to art during the pandemic?

Annie Reyes: The COVID-19 pandemic was challenging for many, including myself. Amidst the stress and uncertainty of lockdowns, I found solace in prayer and began transforming cheeseboards into beautiful artworks. This period of introspection reignited my passion for art and marked a significant turning point in my journey.

Q: How did you transition from traditional art techniques to digital illustration?

Annie Reyes: By 2023, I embraced the digital frontier with Procreate, which allowed me to combine traditional art techniques with modern technology. This fusion has distinguished my work in the coloring book market and opened new avenues for creativity.

Q: What role does Hivedeco play in your artistic journey?

Annie Reyes: Hivedeco is the operational hub and self-publishing company where my passion for art comes to life. Through Hivedeco, I offer diverse original artworks, captivating coloring books, unique notebooks, and signed art prints. My primary focus, however, is to use my art to help people find relaxation and alleviate stress. My coloring books are specifically designed to provide a therapeutic experience, assisting individuals in unwinding and feeling more at peace.

Q: Can you tell us about your Certification in Art Therapy and its impact on your work?

Annie Reyes: Earning my Certification in Art Therapy in 2024 was a significant milestone in my career. It underscored my commitment to using art for relaxation and well-being, enriching my creative endeavors. My coloring books are designed for therapeutic benefits, helping users find relaxation and reduce stress through artistic expression.

Q: What challenges have you faced as a Hispanic woman and artist, and how have you overcome them?

Annie Reyes: Navigating a new country and language has been challenging, but I have always approached these obstacles with resilience and determination. I want to inspire other women to pursue their dreams, regardless of immigration status, language barriers, or starting later in life. My journey, especially beginning this path after my 50s, is a testament that it is never too late to pursue one’s passions.

Q: How do you balance your role as a Director of Promotions at the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana with your artistic pursuits?

Annie Reyes: Balancing my responsibilities is definitely a challenge, as I often work more than 14 hours a day. The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, a volunteer organization dedicated to serving children and families, funds its initiatives through significant fundraising events like the Calle Ocho Music Festival—the largest Latino festival in the USA. The time and effort required to make these events successful are immense. However, despite the considerable time I dedicate to promoting this organization, it doesn’t deter me from pursuing my dream of spreading the joy of artistic expression.

Q: Where can people find your coloring books and other artworks?

Annie Reyes: I have published ten coloring books, available in more than ten digital bookstores, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Each piece tells a distinctive story, inviting imagination on a shared narrative journey.

Q: What is your vision for your artistic future?

Annie Reyes: My vision is to support and inspire individuals on their artistic journeys, fostering connections, purpose, and endless possibilities. I aim to empower individuals to confidently embrace their creative potential, finding fulfillment and joy through artistic expression.

Q: Any final thoughts for those aspiring to follow in your footsteps?

Annie Reyes: My vision is to support and inspire individuals on their artistic journeys, fostering connections, purpose, relaxation, and endless possibilities. I aim to empower individuals to confidently embrace their creative potential, finding fulfillment, joy, wellness, and happiness through artistic expression.
