It looks like Robert Pattinson may have to move aside in favor of Christian Bale, who could be returning as Bruce Wayne if something specific summons him.
The recent Marvel franchise member has not completely ended his connections to the DC universe. Bale, who makes his debut in the MCU in Thor: Love and Thunder, is OK with returning to his role as Batman on a condition: It must be at the request of filmmaker Christopher Nolan.
After starring in the Dark Knight Trilogy (2005-2012), Bale would jump onto any call if Nolan still had a story to tell.
“I had a pact with Chris Nolan,” Bale said in an interview with Screenrant.
“We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

Though many fans were excited about the prospect of a Nolan Batman film, it’s not too likely because he is no longer actively involved with DC films following Zack Snyder’s takeover in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
Affleck returned for Justice League in 2017 ahead of Matt Reeves’ The Batman with Pattinson, which dropped early this year.
Despite hearing “wonderful things,” Bale has not yet seen how Pattinson performs in the role.
“I still haven’t seen it. I will see it,” Bale said in an interview with Variety at the Thor: Love and Thunder premiere in Hollywood last week.
“Listen, mate, it’s amazing how few films I see. Every director I work with, I’ve seen a couple of their films, and they’re always looking at me, going, ‘Are you kidding?’ I like to really savor films I don’t watch too many. But I will, I certainly will. Robert is an absolutely wonderful actor. We bumped into each other, talked a little bit about it ahead of time, and I heard wonderful things.”
