Doja Cat has revealed that she could no longer go on tour with The Weeknd or play upcoming festival dates due to her tonsil surgery. She’s currently healing from the procedure and will be back in action soon.
“The surgery is routine, but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling,” she announced. “I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”
Doja Cat was supposed to be the opening act for the Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn Tour’s North American leg. The concerts are expected to commence between early June and September.
Doja Cat took to Twitter with the details of her tonsil surgery on May 19, saying, “dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil.”
The rapper added, “i had an abscess in it. my whole throat is fucked, so i might have some bad news for yall coming soon.”
The singer also stressed that she had undergone tonsil trouble before the Billboard Music Awards 2022. As a result, Doja Cat did not stage a performance at the BBMAs 2022. She did snag four awards at the ceremony, though.
“nah so my tonsils got infected before bbmas, and i was taking fucking antibiotics but forgot that i was taking them and then drank wine and was vaping all day long and then i started getting a nasty ass growth on my tonsil, so they had to do surgery on it today,” she wrote on Twitter.
Some media outlets have tapped Doja Cat and the Weeknd representatives for further details and comments about the matter.
