After ten years of silence, Jamie Spears spoke out in defense of his role as conservator for daughter Britney’s highly publicized battle with mental health.
Jamie, the father of pop star Britney Spears, gave a heartfelt interview to The Mail on Sunday about the end of her conservatorship. He noted that without this legal arrangement in place for over 13 years, he wasn’t sure his daughter would still be with us today.
“Not everybody’s going to agree with me,” Jamie stated. “It’s been one hell of a time. But I love my daughter with all my heart and soul. Where would Britney be right now without that conservatorship? And I don’t know if she’d be alive. I don’t.”
He added: “For protecting her, and also protecting the kids, conservatorship was a great tool.”
“Without it, I don’t think she would have got the kids back.”
Britney Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline have two teenage sons, Sean Preston (17) and Jayden James (16).
After a tumultuous relationship between Jamie and Federline in 2019—in which allegations of physical abuse were levied against the former —the two now appear to be reconciled.
“I miss my two boys really, really bad,” Jamie stated. “I do. You know, we were very, very close. They were around that age where you could start having a good time with them.”
He added that Britney’s sons are growing up with their own minds.
“But they were developing a mind of their own,” he stated. “God makes things happen for a reason. I don’t know what that reason is, but it’s been a tough three years without them. The family’s a mess. All we can do is keep praying.”

Jamie Credits Conservatorship for Finance Rebuild
For years, the Spears family has contended that conservatorship was instrumental in helping Britney rebuild her finances. And the clan’s patriarch recently stated they were at ground zero when it started; “she had no money whatsoever,” he said.
“My understanding of a conservatorship is to help someone regain their life and return back to society and to be able to live normally,” he added.
“I want to say that I made a difference. There were a few people behind me that really helped bring it to a point where we could help her.”
Spears’ 2019 was fraught with chaos. After announcing her second Las Vegas residency, the pop star suddenly canceled and immediately checked into a psychiatric facility- sparking speculation from fans that her father had forced the admission against Britney’s will.
This prompted an uproar of support from devoted followers across social media using #FreeBritney in protest for their idol’s right to self determination.
As part of the #FreeBritney movement, fans have long suspected that Britney Spears was unfairly manipulated and restricted under her conservatorship.
Last year, these claims were finally brought to legal attention when Ms. Spears appeared in court asserting her situation as a violation of human rights – an open challenge against the powerful forces restricting her personal freedom.
“All I can say is that most people don’t have a clue what the truth is,” Jamie stated. “Her lawyer doesn’t have a clue what the truth is. The media has not heard the truth. They’ve heard the allegations from Britney.”
