Lea Michele Focuses on Making Amends After Controversy

After the backlash she received from her “Glee” co-stars in 2020, Lea Michele is not giving up on her efforts to restore her image.

Despite her Broadway success with the hit musical Funny Girl, the actress remains focused on making up for past failures.

In a recent interview with playwright Jeremy O. Harris, Michele spoke candidly about the challenges she faced and how she worked to get things right. She admitted that she made her mistake and that it wasn’t easy for her to survive the public scrutiny and criticism.

Despite this, Michele is steadfast in her resolve to use her platform to effect change for the better and to show her dedication to being a better ally and role model. She understands that she must take responsibility for the results of her actions because they have repercussions.

She continues to break box office records and garner critical acclaim for her performance in Funny Girl, but it’s clear that Michele hasn’t slackened her efforts to make things right.

Her drive and determination to do better is a testament to her character and dedication to her craft.

Actress Lea Michele was the target of serious accusations from Samantha Ware, her former “Glee” co-star, in 2020, amid the widespread support for the Black Lives Matter movement in the wake of George Floyd’s murder.

Ware claimed Michele “made her life on set” and accused her of bullying and intimidation.

Taking the Step Forward

The accusations sparked a wider conversation about Michele’s behavior on set, with other co-stars like Heather Morris confirming that she was “very unpleasant to work with.” Ware also criticized Michele’s casting in “Funny Girl,” stating that “silence is complicity.”

In the face of these allegations, Michele has publicly acknowledged that she has “an edge” to her personality, but has also stated that she has done significant self-reflection and has attempted to make amends.

“I think these past two years have been so important for everybody to just sit back and reflect,” she stated.

“I did a lot of personal reach-outs. But the most important thing was for everybody to just take a step back. More than anything, I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to apply the things that I’ve learned over the past ten-plus years in a positive way.”

“What I told myself stepping into Funny Girl was, ‘If I can’t take my role as a leader offstage as important as my role as a leader onstage, then I shouldn’t do this show,'” she added.

“Because that was always a struggle for me. So to have this opportunity now at 36 years old as a wife and a mother— to step into this job that comes with so much pressure and a huge amount of responsibility—was a very, very big achievement for me.”

Who Michele is Now

Michele stated that she sees “Funny Girl” as a chance to present herself to audiences as she is now, instead of being defined by her past behavior during her time on “Glee.”

“The conversations that I’ve had behind the scenes with some people were incredibly healing and very eye-opening for me,” she ended.

“I’ve been doing this for a really long time and I’m not going to ever blame anything on the things that I’ve been through in my life. But you also can’t ignore those experiences or deny them.

“They are a part of the patchwork of my life. When I got the call that I was going to play Fanny Brice, I said, ‘Okay, this could be really big for my career, but it’s also helpful to have this opportunity to introduce people to who I am now.'”
