Melissa McCarthy has been doing her best to bluff that she will have a role in Thor: Love and Thunder by denying any involvement with the film.
When asked on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon about the possibility of appearing in Thor: Love and Thunder, McCarthy provided a “safe” answer. The show shared a paparazzi image where you can see her dressed as Hela, who was played by Cate Blanchett in Thor: Ragnarok.
Fallon asked, “It looks like you on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder, and my question is, is that you? Is this photo real?”
To which McCarthy responded, “You know what was? That was me going to my cousin Dawn’s bridal book party.” Then, she added, “That’s [how] you dress to go to a bridal book party.”
“So, you cannot confirm nor deny this is….” Fallon further queried, putting pressure on McCarthy, who remained her cool. “If that is even me,” she replied. “And if it is, that was at Dawn’s house.”
McCarthy’s pictures have been circulating online lately, with some spectators claiming that she might be involved in a stage play retelling of the happenings from Ragnarok.
These speculations are backed by the fact that McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone uploaded an Instagram video during Christmas 2020 begging to be cast in Thor: Love and Thunder.
“Melissa and I are desperate to be in the film Love and Thunder,” Falcone wrote, while McCarthy further said, “I am not afraid to perform a monologue.”
The couple then joked about their abilities, willingness to do anything on the screen, and inclination to the MCU.
Falcone concluded, “We could be love and thunder, or thunder and love.”
Disney did not release any statement about McCarthy’s comments on The Tonight Show. So, it looks like we must wait and see when Thor: Love and Thunder drops in theaters on July 8.
