Instilling values like empathy, resilience, and adaptability in young minds is crucial. And it is integral to provide them with a platform that holds space for these attributes. Practically implementing this is the combined responsibility of educators, parents, and policymakers, requiring their collaboration and designing educational frameworks that go beyond academic achievement.

In this regard, award-winning author Molly Arbuthnott avidly plays her part by contributing narrative-centered stories to children’s literature.

This included her collection of illustrated books and tales for kids that intrigued them with their creative storylines. Building on this, she is heading to develop these further in a way that permits kids to delve into an environment brimming with kindness.

Molly aims to motivate the youngsters using the power of her narration. And to direct their fantasies toward positive paths. The narrative arc drawn from her personal experiences is now transformed into a platform.

Currently, the most popular is Oscar the Ferry Cat from her Oscar and Friends series. (ISBN: 978-1-59079-566-8; $16.99 USD) scheduled to launch in the United States on May 14th. It brings forth the heartwarming tales of love, kindness, and courage. Rose Leslie, who played Ygritte on the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones, wrote of it, “Such a delightful read. Long may Oscar and his adventures continue!” And the journey is very much progressing to a new chapter, in the form of an animated production.

Considering the increased popularity of motion pictures among the kids, Molly is collaborating with animator Alex Pink to bring the characters to life. She strives to broaden the accessibility of these positive messages with the inclusion of animation, particularly for those who prefer audio-visual learning. This transition also marks a development in Molly’s literary universe.

Molly says, “I believe that the story and animation industry (particularly for children) has become quite woke, and in trying to appeal to everyone, it has gradually appealed to no one and has little to offer. I am trying to break this trend by sharing honest and true stories that don’t try to conform to any right or wrong way of doing things they just are, as I try my best to live. I hope it will encourage others to as well.”

She’s not just aiming to entertain; she’s committed to creating something that will act as a guiding light for children navigating their way in life amid various impacts. Through her lively stories, Molly intends to provide beneficial guidance and impart important morals. The animated characters take on the role of ambassadors, embodying themes of teamwork, empathy, and moral courage without any overt promotional intent.

What makes this upcoming animated adaptation particularly noteworthy is its potential impact on global audiences. Molly’s stories, which originated from a personal place of healing and hope, are now poised to inspire children worldwide. The magic of Oscar and Friends, now accompanied by the visual allure of animation, is set to enchant diverse cultures and communities.

As Molly Arbuthnott takes Oscar and Friends from between the pages to the screens, she displays a continuation of commitment toward bringing positivity  through storytelling. With the addition of another medium, along with story sessions at libraries and book cooking sessions, she is seen progressing in reaching young minds.

It’s clear that Molly Arbuthnott’s storytelling magic is bound to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of the young and the young at heart.

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York has created a beautiful video production of her reading from Oscar the Ferry Cat for her YouTube channel. It can be viewed here.
