KiSS Radio 104.9 FM has been playing an expurgated version of “Killing in the Name” by Rage Against The Machine for hours since early Wednesday morning.

After more than five years of service, the company decided to part ways with the three most popular DJs and radio hosts – Kevin Lim, Sonia Sidhu, and Tara Jean Stevens.

The Vancouver Sun reported that a listener requested another song, but the DJ reportedly disregarded it and still played Rage Against The Machine.

“KiSS is changing, and, unfortunately, we were informed that we will not be part of this new chapter,” stated Lim and Sidhu during their last broadcast on Tuesday. “It comes with mixed emotions, as you can probably hear.”

A notable protest track from Rage Against the Machine’s self-titled launch, “Killing in the Name,” popularly involves the lyrics “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me.”

When guitarist Tom Morello found out about the incident, he retweeted one of his fans’ speculations that it was because of staff changes.

“A pop radio station in Vancouver laid off all of their staff yesterday. Whoever is on the controls this morning has been playing ‘Killing in the Name’ on repeat since 6 a.m. (it’s now 9:30). It’s beautiful,” says the tweet.

However, a few radio stations have used the same tactic for the past few years ahead of making a format changeover.
