Actor Vin Diesel, who portrays the well-loved character of Dominic Toretto in the Fast & Furious series, announced on Tuesday that Rita Moreno would be joining their cast—uploading a video with her by his side.
“It’s been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno, and the fact that she’s here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile,” stated Diesel, who in the clip is sitting in between Moreno and co-actor Michelle Rodriguez, who failed to keep her thrill. “I’m so blessed.”
Moreno jumped in, saying, “You know what? I think my old age was waiting for you to invite me. Isn’t that nice? And I’m here, and the answer is yes, I’ll do it.” She even added, “and not only do it, I’m tickled. I’m so thrilled. It’s gonna be so fun.”
“I love you!” Diesel exclaimed, while Rodriguez further said with her own excited comment, “Rita Moreno in the house, baby!”
Diesel hints at another family member in the Fast franchise. He told Variety about what lies ahead with this series last June, suggesting that fans could expect more storylines where Toretto’s mother is established; however, he also hinted there might be someone else who’ll get introduced into their lives as well.
“Before we get to Mother Toretto, we will get to abuela. And the person that I’m so excited to talk about that role is Rita Moreno,” Diesel stated then.
Moreno materializing Diesel’s abuela dreams is only one among the future “meant-to-be casting” for Fast X – in April, Brie Larson plunged into the cast following his revelation at a Super Bowl commercial that being in the franchise was “100 percent” a dream come true.
Besides Diesel, Rodriquez, Moreno, and Larson, the cast of Fast X have many prominent personalities such as Jason Statham, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jason Momoa, and Charlize Theron. Fast X is expected to be released in theaters on May 19, 2023. Louis Leterrier is confirmed to direct following longtime director Justin Lin’s resignation earlier this month.
