“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” Actor Jermaine Rivers to Suit Up in “Black Adam”

Actor Jermaine Rivers is undoubtedly having a “Breakout Year”. Earlier this summer Rivers raised more than a few eyebrows when he made his debut in season two episode #4 of Starz hit series “Power Book III: Raising Kanan”. Jermaine immediately commanded the scene with his “straight no chaser” performance as (Vernon Stark), Kanan’s estranged and incarcerated uncle, who was visited by Kanan “Mekai Curtis” ,seeking information regarding his biological father.

Although Rivers only appeared in one episode in season two, he made a huge impression on the fans, and set the foundation for a possible return of his character in season three. A series renewal is very likely considering the fact that Raising Kanan is one of the highest viewed shows on Starz, boasting an average of 1.4 million views per episode each week.

Over the last decade Rivers has maintained steady bookings in network television, he’s also been slowly establishing a presence on the silver screen as well. His involvement in one blockbuster film in particular is drawing a lot of attention from Hollywood gatekeepers, who are seeing Rivers as the ideal casting choice for future roles in the action, drama and superhero genres.

Evidence of this can be seen with Rivers landing a role in “Black Adam”, this year’s most anticipated film, starring one of the most electrifying superstars on the planet (Dwayne Johnson). With this casting, Jermaine is well on his way to becoming a household name. Most notable for his role as Shatter on the Marvel’s series “The Gifted”, the Atlanta based actor is no stranger to superhero films. Last year Rivers became part of the MCU when he doubled as (Jamie Fox’s) Electro in “Spider-Man No Way Home”.

In addition to the news of  his role in Black Adam,  Rivers is also set to join the cast of the hit Netflix series “Sweet Magnolias”, in a recurring role (Charles Perkins), as they enter their third season next Spring. Rivers took to Instagram to share news of his casting saying, “Feeling extremely blessed and excited to be joining the amazing cast of Sweet Magnolias in Season 3. Rivers also secured lead and supporting roles in the following films that will be released next year: A Party to Die For and Freedom’s Path.
