Zendaya is getting started.

Collectively, Zendaya has now been nominated for the Emmy Awards for her role on HBO’s Euphoria following her notable victory in 2020 as the youngest artist to win an Outstanding Lead Actress award on.

Her character as a recovering teenage drug addict Rue Bennett in the drama gained her a second Outstanding Lead Actress nomination, marking another achievement for her: the youngest two-time Emmy nominee in the category. She is only 25 years old.

The show earned 16 nominations overall – an Outstanding Drama Series – therefore, securing Zendaya her title as the youngest woman to ever be nominated for producing at the Emmys for executive producing Euphoria.

Other Euphoria stars earned the series more nominations: Sydney Sweeney for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Martha Kelly for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, and Colman Domingo for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

Euphoria, created by Sam Levinson, also features Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow, Storm Reid, and Barbie Ferreira.

In a previous interview with EW, Zendaya talked about the show’s severe issues and countered statements about its portrayal of addiction following D.A.R.E., alleging the show of venerating alcohol and drug abuse.

“Our show is in no way a moral tale to teach people how to live their life or what they should be doing,” Zendaya stated.

“If anything, the feeling behind Euphoria, or whatever we have always been trying to do with it, is to hopefully help people feel a little bit less alone in their experience and their pain. And maybe feel like they’re not the only one going through or dealing with what they’re dealing with.”

The Emmy Awards will be broadcasted on Monday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC and will be streamed live and on-demand on Peacock.
