He explains “As an Industrial designer working in the fashion industry, I’ve experienced a significant difference in approach,” he said. “Fashion design, unlike Industrial design, requires a compelling narrative or deeper meaning to make a powerful statement, such as empowering women. Industrial designers, in contrast, focus on identifying problems and providing solutions to address those issues.”
“Initially, adapting to the fashion world was challenging for me,” explains Wang. “However, I soon realized that having a background in both industrial and fashion design became my greatest advantage. It allowed me to bring a unique perspective to the table, blending the problem-solving skills from Industrial design with the storytelling and creativity needed in the world of fashion. This fusion of knowledge and perspective has been invaluable in my journey as a designer in the fashion industry.”
After completing his studies, Lihsing sought out professional opportunities to further develop his skills and gain practical experience. He worked as a Graduate Assistant and CNC Lab Monitor at Pratt Institute, where he collaborated with fellow designers and contributed to the development of innovative design projects. Through this role, Lihsing refined his skills and gained valuable insight into the inner workings of the design industry.
In addition to his academic and professional endeavors, Lihsing also completed an internship at Wistron Inc., a prominent technology company. During this time, he gained invaluable industry exposure and expanded his practical knowledge, learning from seasoned professionals and contributing to the development of cutting-edge design projects.
With his solid foundation in design principles, comprehensive education, and practical experience, Lihsing is well-prepared to embark on a remarkable career in the field of design.
In 2021, Lihsing’s career took a significant leap forward when he joined the renowned brand Tory Burch as a Contractor. His collaboration with Tory Burch provided him with a platform to showcase his artistic prowess and contribute to the brand’s iconic designs.
One of the most significant highlights of Lihsing’s career was the creation of the Tory Burch 2022 spring sculptural jewelry collection. This collection, featuring intricately designed earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, made its debut on the runway and received tremendous success. Lihsing shared his thoughts on this particular project, stating, “The development of this design involved sculpting the shapes repeatedly until achieving the desired look, showcasing the dedication and craftsmanship put into the collection. The experience of working on this project further deepened my appreciation for the intricacies of design and the beauty of bringing intricate ideas to life.”
