Oscar-Winning Director Ridley Scott Shreds Superhero Movies by Calling Them ‘Boring as Sh*t’

Gladiator director Ridley Scott is not one to sugarcoat when he calls out superhero movies for lacking any good script writing and being boring. The statement came out in an interview with Deadline, where the director was asked what he learned from Stanley Kubrick’s approach to Napoleon. But instead of answering what was asked, Scott went into a whole new direction and tackled his hatred toward comic flicks instead.

“Almost always, the best films are driven by the characters, and we’ll come to superheroes after this if you want because I’ll crush it. I’ll fucking crush it. They’re fucking boring as shit. Superhero movie scripts are not any fucking good,” Scott told Deadline. “I think I’ve done three great scripted superhero movies. One would be Alien with Sigourney Weaver. One would be fucking Gladiator, and one would be Harrison Ford (Blade Runner).

The director continued by apologizing that he went off the rail, admittedly missing the point of the question at hand, but went on to discuss what he hates about the superhero genre. Scott explained that superhero movies lack good storytelling and are mostly saved by special effects to gain meaning, which he then emphasized are what makes them dull.

Scott is known for making frank remarks on films in today’s entertainment industry. In October, he previously stirred the press for criticizing the upcoming television adaptation of his Alien film franchise, saying, “Wherever [the television series goes], whatever they do, it’ll never be as good as the first one.”

The iconic director directed two films this year: The Last Duel and House of Gucci. Coming from Scott, both films are already generating a buzz as the next big things at the Oscars. Scott will also be busy directing Kitbag, a Napoleon epic starring Joaquin Phoenix and Jodie Comer. “The thing that really makes Napoleon tick is, why was he in so much need of Josephine. There was a need for each other. And we think we’ve pinpointed what that was,” Scott told Empire. He is also working on a sequel to his Oscar-winning film Gladiator.

Besides Scott, there are a number of other Hollywood directors who have expressed their distaste for superhero movies over the last couple of years. Some of whom were superhero movie directors themselves. James Gunn, director of The Suicide Squad, stirred controversy when he called comic book-based films “dumb” and “boring.”

Martin Scorsese, revered director, also called out Marvel films for having no “revelation, mystery, or genuine emotional danger” when he penned a New York Times op-ed last year. Scorsese even remarked that Marvel is not “cinema” quality.

And perhaps one of the most iconic critics for superhero movies, Alan Moore, director of Watchmen, said, “Superhero movies have blighted cinema, and also blighted culture to a degree.” Moore even called audiences for being so gullible to be lining up in cinemas to watch something intended for children.Superhero movies have generated billions in revenue over the years, being one of the most popular genres in Hollywood films. To date, Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, ranks at the top with over $2.7 billion worldwide gross.

Author on the Rise: Kris Jaeckle Announces Release of Global Adventures: A Divine Journey, the First of Many

Kris Jaeckle is releasing her book entitled Global Adventures: A Divine Journey. The book narrates how the author surrendered her life to the goal of changing the world while on a humanitarian journey in Papua New Guinea but never expected it to happen the way it did. Following a tragic breakup from a romantic relationship, Kris embraced many experiences that brought her to different parts of the world. She met influential and inspiring personalities while on different assignments, such as Nelson Mandela, Viktor Frankl, and Nando Parrado. Her book is also highly-regarded because she shares her experience as one of the few people who have met Mother Teresa in person. Kris was able to meet such highly-regarded persons at a young age while working for private entities that her perspective changed and allowed her to see the world in a different light.

Kris was born into adventure. She made her way into the world while her father was on his way to his next duty station. She grew up as a military kid, which took her to many different places. As her life was always on the move, Kris realized many across the country needed help, which sparked her desire to inspire people and make a difference in their lives. Influenced by her mother’s genuine desire to help others and her father’s servant heart and strong leadership, Kris became a person driven to empower those around her.

The author shared that her first book is for anyone who has experienced a major emotional setback. “Through my story, I wanted to motivate those going through similar experiences to get out and use adventure or try something new as part of the healing process,” Kris shared. “In addition, I wanted people to see how life continues and comes out better even during times when we can’t see the light at the other end of the tunnel,” she added further.

Asked what motivated her to write her book, Kris answered it was those who heard her stories that encouraged her the most. The author shared she was constantly asked by her friends, family, and peers about her adventures, events that happened during her travels, and what she learned from the people she met throughout all of them. They motivated her to highlight and amplify her incredible interactions with others and even the random run-ins that left a lasting impact on her life. “It was the overwhelming desire of others to hear these stories and their reaction to my stories that led me to write a book,” Kris said.

A true child of adventure, Kris envisions exploring many other places in the next five years. She also sees herself continuing to publish more work and live the kind of life she’s living today, where she gains many types of interactions with people from all walks of life.

“I live a life that others find entertaining and that I truly enjoy living. I hope my story can also motivate and encourage others to go out into the world with an open mind and a heart ready for the adventures that await them,” Kris said.

Phoebe Bridgers Being Sued for Defamation

Source: Pitchfork

Record producer Chris Nelson has slammed a lawsuit against Phoebe Bridgers, whom he claims has cost him a lot of money with the lies she has been spreading about him on social media. The lawsuit, worth millions of dollars, claims that Phoebe Bridgers started spreading lies about Chris Nelson on her Instagram page back in October and accused him of stealing, violence, abuse, grooming, and a host of other things.

The record producer claims that the indie rock singer has seriously hurt his finances by defaming him on social media. Chris Nelson claims the accusations are false and has approached the courts to seek redress. According to him, his girlfriend at the time, Emily Bannon, and Bridgers had a consensual sexual relationship since 2018, which continued after he broke up with his girlfriend. He then claims that Phoebe and the ex started talking negatively about him, with 500,000 of Phoebe’s followers taking to his ex’s Instagram page where he was accused of hate crimes, racially motivated violence, robbery, fraud and hacking women’s email accounts.

Nelson, a record producer who owns the famous Sound Space recording studio in downtown Los Angeles, is suing Phoebe for at least $3.8 million in damages. Phoebe has so far not responded to calls or questions on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims that Bannon and Bridgers “maliciously and intentionally” spread the allegations to ruin Nelson’s reputation. In December 2020, the producer filed a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend Bannon in Los Angeles, accusing her of assault, battery, and defamation.

Phoebe Bridgers has been a vocal supporter of abuse victims in the past and has shared her story on a few occasions. Earlier in the year, she talked about her experience with Marilyn Manson in a tweet in the wake of many people, including “Westworld” actor Evan Rachel Wood accusing Marilyn of abuse.

In Bridgers’ tweet, “I visited Marilyn Manson as a teenager with some friends. I was a big fan, and at a point, he called a room in his house the r*pe room. I thought it was a horrible frat-boy sense of humor,” she wrote. “I stopped being a fan at that point. But I stand with and support everyone who came forward,” she added.

She made a series of follow-up tweets in which she accused Manson’s management company, recording label and former band members of being aware of the musician’s behavior. “The label knew, management knew, the band knew. So distancing themselves now, pretending to be shocked and horrified is f—ing pathetic,” she wrote.

Nelson’s lawsuit against her has been filed, and we await an official statement from her camp about the allegations and her involvement in the whole debacle.

Nick Laureano Standing in as a Role Model for the Youth

Making changes in the world is primarily personal, as many changemakers have set out to put in place those things they wish they had. For Nick Laureano, he felt the absence of a role model as a kid, and as an adult, he does not want any other child to go through that. So, he has built a brand out of motivational speaking and has committed himself to being the role model many young people do not naturally have.

Nick Laureano grew up fighting many battles and navigating challenges all by himself. His experiences taught him more about being in tune with himself, and he pushed himself, wiped his tears and endured a lot of pain to become who he is today.

“I don’t wish any of that on anyone, so my goal has always been to motivate and uplift any and all who may be stuck finding out who they really are and be that beacon of light to help them get over the obstacles needed for a better life,” he explained.

The Nick Laureano brand represents so many things, most important of which are the core values attached to his person—self-worth, love, discipline, respect, and compassion. He believes that everyone could use a little bit of these things while offering the same to other people to make the world better. His passion is to speak life into every human being on planet earth and be a significant contributor to fulfilling their full potential. The 26-year-old from Brockton, MA, hopes to guide his audience in the right direction and help them see their self-worth and uniqueness.

“Battling things alone builds you strong, but some give up as they feel no one is in their corner to back them up. I want to be that person that saves a life and pours from my cup into their own,” Nick said.

Nick urges everyone he speaks to never to forget why they embarked on a journey in the first place. He admonishes them to run their race and not build someone else’s kingdom. He never fails to mention that difficulties are a part of life and the important thing is never to fold, no matter the pressure. Nick Laureno puts in the work with his brand and makes sure he’s the hardest worker. His life’s work is geared towards leaving his mark on humanity and helping someone get closer to their dreams.

His merchandise brand Only The Motivated takes his motivational activities to a new level as people globally get to wear his clothing items with inspiring inscriptions on them. “I want to be the person kids wear on their t-shirts when they are at school, saying they look up to me. I want to be the one who gives back to the youth or the less fortunate, seeking nothing in return but to see them win and be happy,” he said.

Over the next few years, he hopes to see many people he has influenced become better in their lives, careers and chosen fields. He also hopes to continue shining his light and knowledge on others while developing himself to be a recognized personality, actor, speaker and influencer.

“I hope to be known for many things, but I want the world to see that I did it my own way and the right way,” he said.

The Driver Ape Racing Club Zooms Past Competition and Heads Towards the Metaverse as a High-Utility NFT

It would seem that non-fungible tokens, better known as NFTs, have blown up the digital market for several acknowledged reasons ever since 2021. As the world rings in the new year, many promising brands are showcasing their very own NFT projects in the hopes of making it big in the ever-changing metaverse. Even though non-fungible tokens were met with sundry criticisms due to their quirky disposition, this piece of blockchain tech has proven itself to be a prime candidate for the advancement of the digital market in the modern world.

NFTs are technically digital assets that symbolize real-life items like artwork, videos, in-game items, music, photos, animated GIFs, and so much more. These digital assets use cryptocurrency as their primary form of payment, with the option of buying and selling them online. At the most, NFTs are customarily coded with the same fundamental software as most cryptos and inhabit the blockchain just like them.

As the market for these distinct fragments of technology advances, developers are definitely beyond thrilled to launch their very own projects, including the team behind the Driver Ape Racing Club, a vast collection of 7,777 high-utility NFT apes set to populate the Solana blockchain once minting takes place.

Inspired by the celebrated saga “Planet of the Apes” and the clothing brand Bape, the developers of this particular NFT project, have considered it instinctive to choose apes to represent their token. Each Driver Ape NFT’s design is distinct from each other and is inspired based on the project’s partnership with ten of the world’s most celebrated car groups and car influencers. Of course, the team’s marketing strategy is directed towards real and existing NFT and car groups.

The Driver Ape Racing Club is also the world’s first-ever high utility NFT by providing its holders access to many virtual and real-life events, including actual prestigious car races, real-world Karting tournaments, an immersive experience in the racing world, and so much more.

“To join DARC is to be part of the most exclusive racing club. It is to be part of a revolutionary project that plans to connect car enthusiasts with events in the physical world and on the metaverse,” the developers explain.

Staying true to their words, the team behind this anticipated NFT is undoubtedly ready to establish their project with the desire to make it last long term. Through their extensive roadmap, DARC’s developers have established a profit-established goal to ensure that their holder’s investments are highly profitable, which can be made possible by implementing several strategies after the launch, increasing the NFT’s floor price.

According to the team, their plans of existing for the long term will include investing over $200,000 in marketing campaigns for their initial launch sale. In addition, they will continue to inject money into influencer marketing campaigns to keep the momentum going around the project.

“We want to ensure that our holder’s NFTs will stand through the test of time, and we believe that the most optimum way of doing it is by heading towards multiple advertising campaigns even after the initial sales are over,” they shared.

No definite date has been given when the project is set to launch, but the developers have indicated that once their official Discord channel has reached 20,000 members, VIPs will be whitelisted to join the NFT’s pre-sale. As soon as it officially launches, minting is possible through the DARC’s official website.

To learn more about this promising high utility NFT, head to DARC’s website. For updates, check out their Instagram, Twitter, or you can join their dedicated Discord channel.
